Cafe Burano: Brunch in Seoul
Breakfast food is still a relatively new concept in South Korea. Although Seoul has caught on to a lot of western trends, it is still cathing up in regards to the brunch scene. Thankfully, Cafe Burano is leading the charge in that scene.
Where? When? What?
Cafe Burano has been around since at least 2012. I discovered it in 2013.
It is on outskirts of Hongdae. They offer an all-day brunch menu along with other items. They're open from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on weekdays and until 10:00 p.m. on weekends.
I've had better brunches outside of Korea, but in Seoul, I'd rank this place's brunch right up at the top.
They have your standard pancakes, eggs, sausages, bacon, and French toast. They also serve up a mean burger. And their French fries are to die for.
Other sandwiches, pastas, and salads are also on the menu. While they don't serve kimchi, fans of a 'beet' are in luck; they can enjoy one of Cafe Burano's Roast Beet Sandwiches.
Cafe Burano has its own in-house bakery. The bakery selection looks good, but I have yet to sample from it myself.
Their smoothies and fresh fruit drinks are a bit thick, but enjoyable. They are quite refreshing partly due to their great presentation.
Cafe Burano has great ambiance. It is an ideal locale for conversation.
There are two seating areas. At the front, there is an enclosed area. Another open area is near the back. You order at the till, and condiments are self-service (including the maple syrup).
On the weekends, it can get quite busy, so be prepared to wait. This is a great hangover/date/casual dining spot.
If you're looking for some good western food in a chilled setting that is decently priced, then Cafe Burano is for you. If this doesn't sound good, Burger King, KFC, and kimbap shops are nearby.
How To Get There?
Cafe Burano is 270 meters from Hongik University Station (Hongdae Station). Walk out of exit 1 and make a right at the first street. Keep walking until you reach a 3-way intersection and make a left onto Donggyo-ro.
Walk straight. Take the first right at Donggyo-ro 23 gil. Walk straight and Cafe Burano will appear on your right. Walk through the white door.
