Ilsan Lake Park
Ilsan is a western suburb of Seoul that lies about 45 minutes away on Line 3. It was planned by the city of Seoul with the intention of alleviating some of Seoul's population stress. Seoul wanted to make sure people had a reason for wanting to live in Ilsan. So it did a wonderful job of designing a marvelous urban park with a large lake as its centerpiece. Ilsan Lake Park is a popular destination for not only those living in Ilsan but residents of Seoul and other nearby cities, too.

Ilsan Lake Park is a big park. Although it has a few athletic facilities such as a basketball court, it was not primarily designed with sports enthusiasts in mind. It seems as though the aim of the park is foremost to give urban dwellers a virtual escape from the city.
The most prominent feature of the park is its lake. The lake is a narrow, long body of water that is purported to be the largest man-made lake in Asia. There are a walking path and a cycling path that make a loop around the lake. Even though the paths can get crowded--especially on weekends--they are very enjoyable as they wind through very picturesque settings in the park.
It is not uncommon to spot celebrities around Ilsan Lake Park. MBC, a major broadcasting studio in Korea, has a studio just across the street from the park. MBC often uses the park and the surrounding neighborhoods to film various programs.
In addition to the unavoidable lake, there are a number of water features in the park. Some are very popular cooling off spots on hot, summer days.
One of the park's most impressive offerings is the Spectacular Musical Fountain. Its seasonal nightly shows are amazing.

Pack a picnic basket and enjoy a picnic on one of the many lawns in the park. If that's not your cup of tea, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes near the park.
The park plays host to a number of festivals throughout the year. Among them are the International Flower Festival held every spring and the Rose Festival held a few weeks later.
One of the newest additions to the yearly lineup of festivals is the Winter Lights Show held from late December until early January.
